Gekonnt verbindet die Band mitreißende Klassiker des kubanischen und internationalen Repertoires, sowie spannenden Eigenkompositionen mit jeder Menge energía postiva. Die erste Single „De Donde Es El Son“ (VÖ: 19.06.2020) ist ein up-tempo Son Cubano und erzählt vom ewigen Streit um die Erfindung des „Son“ - dem kubanischen Stil, der die Basis der Salsa-Musik ist. „Woher stammt der Son“ - das ist die Frage, um die seit jeher die Hauptstädter aus Havanna und die Bewohner der östlichen Provinzen Kubas (Oriente) rivalisieren. Ebenso leidenschaftlich wird darüber diskutiert, wo der Son besser getanzt wird.
Ein besonderer Gast auf FELICIDAD ist die kubanische Rumba- und Folklore-Legende Juan „Chan“ Campos Cárdenas (*1939). Der in Havanna geborene Sänger ist Mitbegründer der Gruppe Yoruba Andabo und gewann mit dieser Formation den Premio Grammy Latino.

Ralf Illenberger zeigt auf seiner neuesten Produktion „Elements“ die ganze Bandbreite seines musikalischen Schaffens. Filigrane akustische Gitarren, orchestral arrangiert und mit funky Rhythmen unterlegt lädt der gebürtige Stuttgarter den Zuhörer auf eine spannende Reise ein.

Mit Walter Keiser(Vollenweider, Nena) am Schlagzeug und Sandro Gulino (Gypsy Kings) am Bass erinnert er auch an seine erfolgreichen Zeiten der 90iger Jahre mit seiner damaligen Band Circle.
Geheimnissvoll, manchmal fast rockig aber immer melodisch stellt Illenberger seine neuesten Kompositionen vor. Gemastered von Hans-Joerg Mauksch in den Stockfisch Studios verspricht Elements auch absoluten Klanggenuss!

Bekannt geworden ist Illenberger als Teil des Duos Kolbe Illenberger (das Beste Deutsche Gitarrenduo) in den 70iger Jahren. Er spielte in 50 Ländern Konzerte, eine Nominierung zum Deutschen Schallplattenpreis (1978) und eine Grammy Nominierung (1997) sind nur ein Teil der internationalen Anerkennung seiner musikalischen Tätigkeit. For four years now, Queen of the Meadow has been enchanting us with their delicate folk songs which have often been compared with the works of Nick Drake, Vashti Bunyan, Elliott Smith or Judee Sill. But it is high time we move away from those tutelary figures to recognize the fair value of the acoustic cathedrals erected by the discreet yet passionate duettists, as well as acknnowledge the almost child-like joy experienced while hearing them sing in harmony.
Helen Ferguson is a late bloomer who started writing a few years ago, driven by a profound impulse to depict her inner demons through radiant melodies.
On the other hand, Julien Pras has been known for almost 25 years as one of the deftest craftsmen when it comes to sensitive song writing. Together, they adorn of the finest fabric the songs that she prefers to compose in her native language. They overstitch the instruments, the sound of which he meticulously works on until a refined and elegant gown is obtained, meant to stand the test of time. The challenge was successfully met from the beginning with their debut album Aligned With Juniper (Tiny Room Rds, 2016) and more particularly with A Room to Store Happiness released in 2018 on Only Lovers Records which allowed them to tour and win the hearts of a wider audience beyond the scope of their original hometown Bordeaux, France.
All the subtleties of the 10 songs of their third album Survival of the Unfittest resulting from an asserted maturity and the obvious complicity of the duo, cannot be translated here. But right from the very first song "Smother", we are charmed by the agile intertwining of the guitars, the flight of vocals gliding above the clouds dripping crystalline notes of piano, the aptness of the rythmic beats paving the space until a tidal wave of panting voices bring the song to its climax to finally end in a peaceful acoustic arpeggio.
From a few dark-red drops in the snow, Helen observes, imagines, builds connexions with the blood shed by wild animals driven out of their territories ("La Louve"), the fear aroused by the heavy step of a familiar man one does not dare rebuff ("One More Chance"), the tormenting hunger on the path of exodus ("Rose of Sharon") or the irreversible power of an electroshock ("Dishonorable Discharge").
Thereby, the title Survival of the Unfittest was inspired by biologist Hebert Spencer’s expression referring to the natural selection which condemns the ones who were not born with the same chances to remain at the bottom of the ladder. But if we dig a little deeper into Helen’s lyrics, we see that she expands the definition to all marginals and other whipping boys. Or if we dare say « whipping girls » since women are another claimed source of inspiration : women who fight in their own ways to be heard and respected. Womanhood is explored through the themes of reverie ("Moonchild"), violence ("Princess Pride"), manipulation ("The King and the Hoe"), sensuality ("Modesta") or dancing (illustrated by the superimposition of the collodion photograph on the cover). Adopting an intimate point of view, Helen does not hesitate to call her
own family at the witness stand to reconcile substance and form in an ode to the strength of intergenerational bonds ("Honey"). And when the lyrics reveal too little, the sound effects chosen by Julien take over, drawing the missing words, building enchanting or menacing worlds but never imposing any unilateral interpretation.
Survival of the Unfittest is a new stone in Queen of the Meadow’s Garden of Delights which will hopefully serve as a talisman to repel depression and light the path for those who will have the curiosity to visit it.

Der Komponist, Gitarrist, Sänger und Texter Eckhardt Günther ist einer der ersten Protagonisten des deutschsprachigen Popjazz. 1979  hat er die LP „Da Sein“ mit deutlich jazzigem Anstrich aufgenommen. Für Vinyl-Liebhaber wird eine limitierte Auflage dieser LP vom Label Bynja Produktion (Vertrieb Timezone-Records) angeboten.
Eckhardt Günther präsentiert eine spannende, virtuose und überraschende Jonglage aus Jazz, Blues, Rock, Balladen und Bossa Nova. Es sind Stücke mit stilistischen und kompositorischen Finessen, in denen den hervorragenden Musikern viel Raum für Improvisationen gelassen wird.
Die deutschen Texte sind hübsch bissig, bildhaft, selbstironisch, verspielt; manchmal schmerzlich direkt. Oder die Lieder erzählen nur von Beziehungen unter unterschiedlichen Wetterbedingungen oder vom Genießen. Diese fein gesponnenen lyrischen Texte liegen der LP bei.
Einige Titel wurden digitalisiert bzw. teilweise nachbearbeitet und sind auf der weltweit verfügbaren Doppel-CD „Eckhardt Günther – 24 Lieder und ein Song“ zu hören.
Die Plattenhülle der Vinyl-LP „Da Sein“ wurde von dem Künstler und Folkwang-Dozenten Klaus-Uwe Schlueter gestaltet.

Die Band VILNIR kommt aus Süddeutschland und besingt in einem nordisch-fantasy anmutenden Musikstil in ihren Liedern nicht nur die Tiefen des menschlichen Seins mit all seinen Facetten, wie kritische Gedanken an sich selbst, Ängste, Hoffnungslosigkeit, Kampf, Leid, sondern auch Zuversicht, Liebe, Hoffnung und Fröhlichkeit. Themen, die die Menschen schon seit jeher beschäftigen und nicht an Aktualität verlieren.
Geboren aus einem Studio-Projekt Anfang 2019 entwickelte Komponist und Produzent Michael "Eldur" Schnoor, zusammen mit Aranka "Ari" Nagel und später mit Claudia "Jola" Elmer die musikalische Orientierung, in der sie sich auf keine zeitliche Epoche festlegen, sondern Raum für Kreativität schaffen und verschiedenste Einflüsse und Ideen mit einbinden.
VILNIR nimmt den Zuhörer mit auf Reisen, stellt ihn inmitten auf ein Schlachtfeld oder in ein Marktgeschehen, auf dem es nicht immer mit rechten Dingen zugeht. Er erfährt die Geschichte um einen Trunkenbold oder von der Liebe zu einem Mädchen, die leider unerfüllt bleibt. Ein Wechselbad der Gefühle, mal ernst, mal schelmisch, mal temperamentvoll vorgetragen.
VILNIR kann mit seinen Trommeln und den Bordunen der Drehleiern laut und treibend sein, ergänzt durch unverkennbare Melodien und dem tiefen rauen Gesang von Eldur, abgerundet mit den Stimmen von Jola und Ari. Dadurch entsteht der charakteristische VILNIR Klang, der aber auch mal leise, fast schon mystisch, sein kann. Beispielsweise durch zart gezupfte Töne der Laute und dem lieblichen Klang der Nyckelharpa. In Kombination mit dem Gesang von Ari und Jola wird der Zuhörer in eine andere Welt entführt.
Die Texte sind hauptsächlich auf Deutsch, teilweise auch auf Schwedisch und Norwegisch, geschrieben. Musikalisch werden vorwiegend traditionelle Instrumente wie die Drehleier, Nyckelharpa, Moraharpa, Leier, Laute, verschiedene Trommeln und Hörner eingesetzt.

“Joscho Stephan is without a doubt a world-class guitarist who is best known for his incredibly virtuoso solo technique in the Django Reinhardt genre, which he interprets in his own unique and recognizable way. 
With all new and fresh ideas, he effortlessly lives up to Reinhardt's legacy. In the duo with me, Joscho shows himself from a slightly different side: also virtuoso, but more jazzy, sometimes with archtop guitar and sometimes with flat top acoustic guitar. It was great fun to record the pieces for our joint album 'Sundowner' with him in my studio (and to sing along with two of the pieces) and everything went very quickly. The reason is that we always (even if we tried a second version) decided to go for the "first take".

Groundbreaking first album from the true inventors of Folk-Punk

Steve Baker came to Germany in 1976 with Have Mercy, a crazed Anglo-American acoustic blues and jugband whose members also included Henry Heggen and Rory McLeod. German blues expert Werner Weber, who saw the band performing in London and spontaneously invited them to play in his hometown of Aachen, described their music as “Rocking Harmonica Blues”, but in spirit it was in many ways closer to the energy of the punk rock scene then emerging in Britain. Have Mercy ended up in Hamburg, the northern port city which played such a vital role in the development of British beat music, where their riotous performances swiftly earned them the reputation as one of the hottest acts on the thriving “Hamburg Scene”.

Thanks to their highly individual but undeniably authentic style of rocking roots music and their inspired live shows, Have Mercy gained a considerable degree of notoriety in their adopted hometown. They were soon offered a deal with Antagon Records, a Hamburg label which had recently released LPs by Scottish folk icon Alex Campbell and jazz singer Bill Ramsey. By coincidence, Boodlam was recorded in Hamburg during the same two week period in February 1977 when The Clash were recording their eponymous debut LP in London.

As well as the title song, the album includes ripping versions of J.B. Lenoir’s “Mojo Boogie”, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee’s “Poor Man But A Good Man” and Leadbelly’s “Midnight Special”, plus several originals, among them Steve Baker’s “Hustle On Down” and two early songs from Rory McLeod, “Collector Man” and the whimsical “Somebody Else Will”. Powered by massed harmonicas, with Heggen and McLeod’s formidable lead vocals, plus backing vocals from everybody else, and driven by the double Dobros of Brian Barnett and Dick Bird, the album oozes manic youthful energy. It also gives Have Mercy a serious claim as inventors of what later came to be known as Folk Punk. For the first time since the band parted company in the late 1970s, their seminal debut album is now available again, as a download from Timezone Records including original artwork.

Mit seinem neuen Live-Doppelalbum bleibt Ulf Hartmann sich treu. Mit „Morgenrot“ präsentieren Sonor Teutonicus aus dem Osnabrücker Land ihr bereits fünftes Studioalbum. Stilistisch stellt das Album eine kontinuierliche Weiterentwicklung aus den Vorgänger-Alben dar. So ergänzte das Quintett seinen „akustischen Mittelalter-Folk-Rock“ um ein modifiziertes Schlagzeug. Daneben erklingen wie gewohnt Gitarrencister, Geige, Dudelsack, Schalmei und der Schlüsselbass, eine tiefe Schlüsselfiedel, die zusammen mit sattem Klangteppich den Gesang begleiten und in vielen Instrumentalparts auch solistisch hervortreten.
Im Vergleich zum Vorgänger „fürchtet euch nicht“ (2015) enthält „Morgenrot“ deutlich mehr Lieder aus eigener Feder, wie das dramatische „In die Weite“, das schwermütige „Maledictio“, das verträumte „Schwarz war die Nacht“, den feurigen „Wettergott“, fast schon ein Heavy Metal-Stück, und natürlich die mitreißende Bandhymne „Sonor Teutonicus“. Mit „es trügt der Schein“ bekam ein schwungvolles Marienlied aus dem spanischen Mittelalter einen neuen, deutschen Text, das mittelhochdeutsche Gedicht „In dem Aberellen“ wurde mit einer tänzerischen Dur-Melodie vertont. Das rockige „Ecce torpet probitas“, der Gassenhauer „Papst und Sultan“ und das „Wol auff wir wellen slauffen“ von Oswald von Wolkenstein sind rein traditionelle Stücke, wie auch „Diacove“, ein bulgarischer Tanz im 9/8-Takt und einziges Instrumentalstück des Albums.
Die 11 sehr individuellen und abwechslungsreichen Stücke führen den Hörer durch wechselnde Stimmungen, erzählen von Liebesleid und Sinnesfreuden, von Täuschung, Sehnsucht und Hoffnung, von tiefer Nacht und hellem Tag, von den Schattenseiten des Daseins und lichten Momenten. Stets laden sie dabei zum Tanzen und Mitsingen ein.

Die Pressestimmen zu Daniel Greens 2019er Album „Vanish Like A Cloud In Sunlight“ zeigen deutlich, dass das Thema Tod musikalisch berühren darf. 15 Monate und umso mehr dunkle Gedanken später erscheinen jetzt die B-Seiten dieses Albums. Im Fokus steht „Family Man”, denn wenn Familien die Väter verlieren, wankt die Welt. Gedanken von „Vanish Like A Cloud In Sunlight” werden auf dieser EP weitergedacht.

Erstmals machte die Band 2015 mit „Concrete Memories“, ihrer Single „gegen das Vergessen – zum 70. Jahrestag der Auschwitz-Befreiung“, auf sich aufmerksam.
Nun legen die fünf Musiker neun neue Songs vor, darunter zwei Coverversionen, die im Gegensatz zu den Eigenkompositionen mit deutschem Text daherkommen. Fast hat man das Gefühl, die Band nutzt diese Songs zur Selbstverortung zwischen „Das Model“ von Kraftwerk und „Zu Asche, zu Staub“ aus der Serie Babylon Berlin; im Original nicht gerade Songs, die man sich gut von einer Gitarrenband vorstellen konnte, doch MBTY haben ihr musikalisches Vokabular so stark erweitert, dass sie das scheinbar mühelos meistern.
„The House is Moving“, der Titeltrack des Albums, spiegelt das künstlerische Potential der Band beeindruckend wider. Er beginnt im Wohnzimmer, jedenfalls hört sich das Intro, gespielt auf einer einsamen Akustikgitarre, so an. Zaghaft, erst suchend, dann klar und kräftig, gesellt sich eine Geige dazu, dann eine E-Gitarre. Es vergeht viel Zeit, ehe Schlagzeug und Bass einsetzen und sich die Tür zum Sound des Songs vollends öffnet.
Heidis Stimme, eindringlich und tieftraurig, trägt durch die kargen Lyrics. Ab der dritten Strophe verstärkt eine blutrot sägende Gitarre die Intensität. Schnell schwindet das gute Gefühl; die Geige spendet keine Kraft, sondern saugt sie auf. Irgendwann weiß man nicht mehr: Ist das eine Geige, sind es zwei? Ist das pure Schönheit oder Dissonanz?
„Two Yellow Lanes“ träumt im 5/4-Takt. Der Offbeat von „Summerland Suite“ lädt zum Tanz zwischen Wollust und Wehmut. „Kite Runner“ schleicht sich an, mit einem angedeuteten Tango, und schwingt sich - zwischen Gedanken zum Mensch und seiner Bezugsgruppe - auf zu einer pompösen Wall of Sound, in der eine Bassklarinette die Gitarrenwände aufbricht und irische Melodien und französischen Chanson hereinlässt. An manchen Stellen horcht man überrascht auf, zum Beispiel, wenn in “Hot Deal” eine archaische Begleitautomatik aus den 70ern erklingt. „Fishtank“, ein wenig versöhnlicher Walzer, schließt den Reigen - Happiness comes only at the bottom of a bottle, when you forget that you had bigger dreams. You always wanted more than this.
Angst vor Stilbrüchen? Nein, niemals!
Die Band hat durchgängig einen kompakten Bandsound entwickelt, der es versteht, seine Hörer herauszufordern, sie aber nie überfordert. Gekonnt arrangierte Gitarren, dynamische Drums, treibende Basslinien und darüber die sphärische Stimme von Heidi Engel.
Much Better, Thank You sind gelandet, Meilen entfernt von ihrem Ursprung, aber glücklich im täglichen Unglücklichsein.
