Dias Karimov was born in 1983 in Ufa, Russia. He comes from a traditional family of musicians and has been playing the piano since he was six years old. His father, the pianist and composer Airat Karimov, was Dia's classical music teacher during his childhood, teaching him the first steps in improvisation.
In 1990 Dias began his studies at a music high school in the subject "classical piano", which he graduated in 2001 with distinction. In 2005, Dias completed his diploma as a concert pianist at the Ufa Academy, where he accepted an offer to work as a music teacher shortly thereafter.
His love of jazz and improvisation brought Dias to Weimar in 2008, where he studied jazz piano at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. He then dedicated his skills to various crossover projects. He is currently working as a lecturer at the Music Academy in Wiesbaden and Frankfurt am Main. He also plays solo concerts and has performances with various other musicians from different styles.
Dia's new album "ImPuls" is dedicated to his father Airat Karimov. This CD contains pieces by Airat Karimov, Elmer Szentirmay, arrangements by Jazz Standards and his own compositions. On this album, Dias Karimov plays a hundred-year-old Schiedmayer piano.
